Cardiac Surgery Patient Companion is an educational app for people having cardiac surgery. It was built to collect nothing at all — there are no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, and no network connections of any kind. The app works fully offline.
What the app stores
All of the following is kept on your device only, in the app's local storage, so your progress is there when you return:
- Your chosen language (English or French)
- Which checklist items you have ticked
- Up to three operations you bookmarked, if you bookmarked any
- Your surgery date, if you chose to set one (used only to position you on the recovery timelines and show a countdown)
- Where you marked yourself on "My path," if you did, and when you set it
- A phone number for your own care team, if you chose to type one in (used only to start a call from your own phone when you tap it — the app itself contains no phone numbers)
- Whether you have acknowledged the one-time disclaimer
That is the complete list. Nothing else is stored, and none of it ever leaves your phone. The app's privacy manifest declares exactly this to Apple.
What the app does NOT do
- No personal or health information is collected or transmitted. The surgery date and care-team number are optional, never required, and stay on your device.
- No advertising, no analytics, no tracking of any kind.
- No data is ever sent off your device, to us or to any third party. The app makes no network requests.
- No account or sign-in exists.
The web version
The guide can also be read in a web browser at this site's guide. The web version has no personal tools: it saves only your language choice and that you have read the opening notice, in your browser's local storage on that device, and never sends them to us or anyone else. It uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party fonts or scripts. Clearing your browsing data for this site removes it.
Like every website, the pages are delivered by a hosting service, GitHub Pages, which receives the technical information any web request carries, such as your IP address, and handles it under the GitHub Privacy Statement. We do not receive or see that information.
Data sharing
Because no data ever leaves your device, there is nothing to share. We do not sell, rent, or disclose any information — we never receive any.
Your choices
Every stored item above is optional and can be cleared inside the app: untick or reset a checklist, remove a bookmark, clear your surgery date or care-team number. Deleting the app removes all of it at once.
Medical disclaimer
This app provides general education only. It does not replace advice from your own surgeon or care team, and it cannot list every possible symptom. Always follow the instructions your care team gives you, and call your care team or your local emergency number if something feels wrong.
